Using Wittgenstein in Contemporary Philosophy
Fifth Symposium of the International Ludwig Wittgenstein Society (Internationale Ludwig Wittgenstein Gesellschaft)
Faculty of Philosophy
Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain
Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st of May, 2015
It is indubitable that Wittgenstein is one of the most relevant philosophers of the 20th century. His legacy has greatly influenced almost all contemporary philosophical debates and his work is a constant reference in every area of the present philosophical stage, from the philosophy of language and logic to the theory of knowledge, from aesthetics to the philosophy of religion, extending its presence to political philosophy as well.
Given this enormous fertility of Wittgenstein’s thought it is not surprising that there have been multiple and different receptions of Wittgenstein’s philosophical legacy. However, these different assimilations are not always entirely compatible giving way to strong controversies about the meaning and consequences of his ideas.
Taking into account this rich philosophical plurality, the 5th Symposium of the International Ludwig Wittgenstein Society will examine the contemporary receptions and uses of Wittgenstein’s inheritance in order to show its vitality and fruitfulness in the ongoing philosophical reflection.
